Carrier Verizon Vs Apple Trade In

I currently have an X and owe $82 to finish my payments. Verizon is offering $320 for my 64g X and Apple is offering $400. Why the difference in trade amounts? Do you think I could get Verizon to match Apple? I'd rather go through Verizon since they have the phones in stock. Apple is showing mid October delivery dates. I figured its time to trade as next year my X will not be worth much for trade it and almost lose out on the value of the phone.
