Firstly Merry Christmas to Everyone!

I woke up Christmas morning to find faint vertical lines on my iPhone 5S screen, which only show up in a really dark room and only when certain colours are on screen. I ordered this phone on day of release so is a couple months old now but has never been dropped and has always been in my slim armour case.

I tried restarting the phone and when it restarts a few bright pixels are displayed on the screen until the apple logo appears, I guess you would call them screen artefacts.

So my questions are, would you say this is a hardware fault? Is it worth even trying a restore? Is this a common or known problem?

I have attached an image which shows the lines, sorry about the quality it was taken in the dark using my iPad.

Thanks in Advance!

my money is that its a hardware defect. you can try restoring the phone, as apple may ask you to "try this first", but i highly doubt it will help. is it always there or only under certain circumstances then go away. if its easy to recreate, i would bring it to apple and have it replaced under warranty. my guess is it will only get worse before it gets better, if at all.

Personally, I'd take it back to apple to have them check it out - clearly that's not normal.

Thanks will book an appointment with Apple next week then I guess. It's a few miles away on the train but at least the gf can go off shopping.

For sure take that back to Apple. They might want to do a display replacement I would ask if they could swap out the device just out of worry that the hardware issue could also be something deeper than the display panel itself.

Just an update on this, I always charge my phone while it is face down on the carpet, the following night I moved it off the carpet and left it on a shelf charging and it was fine the next morning.

I was staying at the mother-in-laws house and wondering if there was some sort of cleaning chemical in the carpets that reacted with the screen? She has cats so maybe she used something really strong that affected the screen?

Since being back at home there has been no problem with the phone so not needed to take it to the apple store.

Things I did notice:

- The lines were only visible on the two occasions I charged face down on her carpet.
- The lines faded throughout the day, both times it happened.
- I have no problems at my home charging face down on the carpet.

It's very strange, any input on these strange happens?

Man, everything is allergic to Cats, even our stinkin phones!

I woke up this morning and I saw the same vertical stripes across the screen on my iPhone 5S too !

the stripes have disappeared after a phone reboot
