Vertical photos pasted as folder icons in Preview stretched to square. Possible High Sierra bug?

I am trying to copy poster images as photos for folders (Copy and Paste the Preview icon) but they get converted into square format. Is this a bug or is there a way to allow it to be in poster/vertical format instead of scaling it to a stretched square?

Seems to be a High Sierra issue, as it works as intended in El Capitan (no Sierra install available to test) and I was able to replicate the bug in two of my High Sierra installs.

Figured. Thanks for confirming. I've been having way too many bugs in High Sierra. Contacts won't sync from my phone either.
