very blurry motion video on iPhone 5

I've noticed serious motion blur when taking a video with some moderate motion on my new iPhone 5. For example, in the test video below, look at the vertical wooden rail bars as I pan the camera or the roof of the garage seems to stutter as I pan past it:

is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

anyone have a suggestion? I'm trying to find out if my iPhone is defective or if my expectations of the video-stabilization features of the iPhone 5 are off-base.
