Early 2011 MavBook Pro using Sierra has recently started to get very hot when using Safari, Firefox or Mail. Activity Monitor shows % usage about 200% for the browsers and 100% for Mail. My Chrome browser is just fine.

Any advice would be appreciated

I have the same problem . Never had a mac or used forums. My son bought a 2011 MacBook Pro with Sierra installed but we immediately updated it to High Sierra. It’s CPU is at full tilt due to kernel-task running ca 300% constantly. Having read another thread I’ve upgraded the RAM for 4 to 16GB but also have your problem and definitely need KISS guidance
