Hi
I put a CD in my optical drive about a week ago and it started making an extremely loud humming noise which doesn't stop until you eject the CD. You'd expect some noise from an optical drive but the volume of this suggests that something might be wrong.
As far as I know it happens with every CD. Does anyone have any experience? Is my computer about to break? The drive seems to read + write fine but it's just noisy.

The drive on my Mac Mini is very loud, don't mind if I am importing a cd etc where I want it to be fast but it annoying if just using it for playback.

To solve the problem I use http://discrotate.sourceforge.net/ which allows you to slow down the drive and reduce it's noise.

yeah it happens to mine some times. I have some old CD's (my dads) from the 80's that seem to be thiker that make more noize than others. and yeah the few bent ones "wher" alot.

The drives are ok maybe a little cheep but they are slot loading who elts has that?

I want Blu-ray in my mac now
