very quick iMovie newbie question

iMovie 11 9.0.4

When I double click a clip in the project tab select audio and drag volume to 0% the audio still plays. When I click the equaliser button it shows the waveform has gone but the audio still plays back when playing the clip.


Any ideas?
 
I haven't used iMovie in a little while, but within 'Edit', can you detach audio off the clip? Then just delete the audio completely?
