very sick mac

friend of mine has a sick mac .. any ideas would be appreciated

tried to open ichat and it quit immediately. Tried a couple more times... same thing. Then I rebooted I lost my dock, nothing would open, basically the computer wouldn't do anything. I rebooted several more times, tried to go into the "guest" ID that I have on here that has the original programs and settings... nothing... just a blue background

I finally got firefox to open by clicking on a link to apple's website, but firefox is not letting my type anything into either the search bar or the web address part. I eventually got to google through my bookmarks, but it wouldn't let me type anything. So basically you guys are my only resource to try and sort this out

So in summary... I have no dock, things wont open, and things are just generally not working. It's seemed a little squirrelly since I installed updates several days ago... like a reboot yesterday took FOREVER, and there has been some general quirkiness.

Uh oh.. is your friend on 10.4.10 or 10.4.11? Those two can be quite the quirky little monsters

her system is a PowerBook G4... the OS is 10.4.11

Yeah.. I would downgrade, somehow, to 10.4.10 or something, or else back up and do a clean install.
