Hey

As a novice Mac user I find myself in need of some help with my MacBook pro.

For some time now my MacBook Pro has been considerably slower than usual. Do any of you have any good advice on how I can find the reason for these slow downs?

OS X 10.8.4
2,3 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
HD 3000 GFX

I do experience page outs (primarily when playing Football Manager 2013). But even after the game has been shut down and even if I only have Safari open the system is incredible slow and locks up.

What info do you need to help me and how do I find it?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your hard drive may be on the way out. Backup your data now. Run Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics to check your machine. To start AHT or Apple Diagnostics, power on your mac while holding the D key.
