I have an iMac running Snow Leopard and having difficulties with obtaining a good speed for wireless internet. I have been having problems for a while and actually changed my previous iMac for a new one plus I have tried three routers and now have an airport extreme base station but still no luck. With an ethernet connection directly into the cable modem, I get 9.5 to 9.8 Mbps which is fantastic. However, when I use airport extreme for wireless I get around 200 to 1000 Kbps which is just not fast enough for what I need.
I have tried everything in my capacity including taking the Mac back to the shop (where they eventually gave me a new one) but this new mac is just the same. The speed occasionally goes up to abut 2Mbps for a short while then goes right back down to a virtual stop and this can be the case at any time of day or night. It does not appear to be different with interfering electricals like microwave oven, TV etc switched on or off. I do have a pair of cordless phones that run *on a frequency of 1.88 to 1.9 Ghz (or Mhz, I can't remember which) but I have tried unplugging these and hiding them outside and in different rooms but still the connection is slow.
I know that the computer is OK because it is new and the same spec as my last one and I know that the connection with Virgin Media is OK because I get a hard wired speed of nearly 10Mbps constantly.
Can anyone assist in what I can do here.
Thanks
