Macbook 13" early 2015. My two Option (alt) keys ceased to work.

At first I thought this must be an hardware failure but then a friend asked me to go in Internet recovery mode and in that mode the Alt-Option keys correctly let me select the alternate characters they're supposed to generate (I have an Italian keyboard hence the internet (AT) sign and the square and curly brace are the ones I cannot achieve right now).

So the keys do work in Internet recovery mode. Could this mean that it's NOT an hardware issue?

I must add that a few weeks ago this machine was caught in a loop trying to upgrade from 10.13.3 to 10.13.6 and while in Safe mode the Disk Utility First Aid found several errors.

To get out of that after "fixing" the disk I did an OS reinstall from Cmd-R recovery mode without reformatting.

Could this have led to some broken support files not being fixed?

Any other solution other than backing up my data manually and reinstall with formatting plus reinstalling all of the software and libraries I need?

Thank you very much.
