What's a good VESA stand (free-standing, not an arm) that allows vertical positioning and rotation into portrait orientation?

I have a tilt & height adjustable ASD on order, but it’s been delayed once and probably will be again. If I could get a VESA ASD sooner I’d go with a desktop stand, but I’d like to hear from somebody who’s actually used one. I want something solid so the monitor won’t wobble every time I bump the desk.

I haven't seen one yet, but there's certainly an opportunity for someone to build and sell them. It needs Apple-esque aesthetics and quality on the foot, height and rotational adjustment, and should cost noticeably less than $400 (so that it competes with Apple's height-adjustable stand even for those not looking to rotate their display). That option also would give all SD customers the option to choose the VESA version and therefore not be locked into any particular usage scenario in the future.

There are a bunch of stands available on Amazon and elsewhere. None of them come close to the aesthetics of Apple’s stand, but they’re less than 10% as expensive. My main question is how sturdy they are and how much the ASD will move when it’s mounted. The detachable stand that came with my HP monitor is pretty good, but it’s not VESA.
