VGA Bootcamp woes

Hey guys, so I have a unibody C2D 2.24ghz, 4GB RAM 9400m Macbook Pro. In Windows 7 bootcamp, when I plug the VGA adapter in the screen goes black on the computer (and doesn't show up on the other monitor) and stays black even after I have unplugged the adapter. The keyboard stays lit and stuff, but the only way I've found to get the screen back is to put it to sleep or to reboot. It's very frustrating. It works flawlessly in OS X though! I've searched a lot of places and didn't know if anyone else has had similar problems.
