Hey guys,

I'm looking to connect an old VGA screen I have to my rMBP. It serves my purposes.. At least until I get a bigger HD screen.

Anyway, what is my best option? HDMI to VGA converter or Thunderbolt to VGA? Will it make a difference? Can I go with anything cheap or should I look into buying something decent?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the quick reply!

I probably won't get one from Apple since I'm not looking to spend €30 on it but I'll look on eBay or something. But I'll go with the Thunderbolt option. Thank you once again.

I think the MiniDP adapter provides the same functionality... but it's good confirming.

From what I understood, Mini DP and Thunderbolt are the same port. Unless you were replying to my initial question about Thunderbolt vs HDMI.

Right you are, they are the same port shape, size, and Thunderbolt is backwards compatible with Mini Display Port. There are many cheaper options to purchase the adapter from, Apple is not what I would call a good deal.

Thank you all so much for the explanation and the advice on which product to buy. I'll take care of it ASAP.
