Hi,
I have an early 2008 MacPro Dual Quad 3.2ghz. Last week the logic board fried. I got the computer back today from MacMall service where they replaced the logic board through apple care warranty. MacMall told me that when my Nvidia graphics card (don't remember the model) was in the machine, there were all sorts of problems such as heat sensors being inaccurate. They removed the card and found that my system worked perfectly with my ATI Radeon HD 2600. Previously I had both cards installed and operational.
So I got the computer home and fired it up connected via DVI to two gateway 20" monitors which I have been using for years only to find I had no display. I tried connecting one monitor via VGA cable (using the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer) and I now have display, but I hate VGA.
And finally, the question: Does anyone know why VGA would work, but not DVI? Logic says to look to the monitors as the problem, but it seems unlikely that both would fail ONLY with DVI and at the same time after 5 or 6 years of service. I am stumped and desperately need the system to work properly as I am a freelance editor and have jobs stacked up and a crazy display problem. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
