video camera aspect ratio

My husband and I were looking at the 3Gs videos because i REALLY want one, and I keep telling him how badly I want it just for the video..

But then we noticed.. the aspect ratio seems off when you hold it on its side to get a widescreen look..

I would assume EVERYONE would video widescreen because it makes sense.. but the aspect ratio should fit perfectly on the widescreen, but it doesnt.. WHY????

I believe it's 640x480.
Standard VGA 4:3 resolution. It fits perfectly on the iPhone.
"Widescreen" is generally considered 16:9, but you need letterboxing to view that on the iPhone, so that's why it records in 4:3.
