I got a JVC Everio GZ-HM50 video camera for Christmas. I've been shooting a lot of footage and I wanted to edit it. When I plug it into my Mac Pro none of the files will play. Do I have to convert the files? And if so how do I do it?

If you import the footage via iMovie or FCE from the camera, the footage will be transcoded to .mov files using the Apple Intermediate Codec, thus the files will be up to 49GB/hour.
You might also look at "Chris at JVC"'s post: https://forums.macrumors.com/members/382924/

Or use MRoogle to look for related topics, most commonly having to do with "AVCHD" footage and Mac OS X.

Or what video editing application do you use?

Thanks a lot man. I found a post from him and it worked. I appreciate it!
