Video camera zoom differs

I just noticed that when you go into the camera to take a video the zoom is different than if you were to go into messages, press the little camera icon and switch it to camera mode. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to change this? I prefer the zoom in messages its not so zoomed in
