Hi all,
I've done quite research on upgrading video card on this forum but I couldn't find satisfactory answer so I am writing one.

My understanding so far is that any PCIe video card will work on Windows boot camp but they are not necessarily compatible with OSX. Also, in order to make a PCIe video card compatible to Mac, I understand i need to flash the video card.

What are the successful video cards you know that can be installed in pre-Nehalem 2008 mac pro? By this i mean any video cards that are compatible with mac osx. My card is ATI x1900 and its pretty outdated. Any advise or corrections to my understanding would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Your best bet would be to get the new 5770. It's about as fast as the previous 4870 but cheaper and less power hungry. You could also get the 5870. But note, it sounds like Apple officially won't support either of these 2 cards, but they will work.

from apple:

7300GT
HD3870
X1900
8800
4870
285GTX
5870

from flashing pc card:

8800
4870
4890
and recently, 5870 & 5770

all listed by performance, lowest first

Thanks guys,
I purchased 5770 and will let you know how it is after flashing the video card!
Your help is much appreciated :)
