Hello MacRumors forum,
I have a 2009 Mac Pro 8-core 2.26ghz with 32 GB of RAM and the original nVidia GT 120 graphics card. The computer is hooked up to an HP 30 inch monitor (2560 x 1600 resolution) so the graphics card is powering a large amount of real estate. This computer's main purpose is to work with audio and music programs (Digital Performer, Pro Tools, Finale 2012, and numerous audio plug-ins) but I occasionally work in Photoshop and other visual graphics programs.
My question is, if I upgrade to the AMD 5770 card, will I see any significant change in scrolling speed a smoothness within the audio and music programs? I know I will see a significant increase in photo and video editing, but I'm wondering about general (non-photo/video) programs benefiting from this. Right now my audio and music programs lag a bit (I use the entire 30 inch screen when working) when scrolling from one section of a document to the next. I'm not sure how and if a graphics card handles regular program scrolling or if it makes much of a difference at all.
For those who don't know, Finale 2012 is a music notation program and uses various fonts (including fonts that are music notation specific) to create sheet music. Pro Tools and Digital Performer and Digital Audio Workstations (similar to Apple's Logic) geared toward creating, recording, and editing music digitally.
Any insight on this would be great! Thanks!
