Video compressor for iDvD

I'm trying to burn a tv series using iDvD but currently I can only fit 3 episodes per disc on a basic single layer 4.7mb. Where can I find a simple program to compress the video files so I can fit more episodes per disc? I'm on os x 10.4 if it makes any difference with the program versions.
