Hello,
I recently bought a brand new 15" Retina MBP. I'm planning on using it mainly as a video editing machine, but am having difficulties understanding some things. When a clip that I import into FCPX is being rendered, my CPU goes up to around 90% usage, Core 1, 3, and 5 all reach temperatures greater than 90 degrees celsius, and rendering a 6 minute 1080p clip takes about 45 minutes. I've been told this is because my videos are on the internal hard drive, but I don't quite understand why that would be a problem. Could someone please explain what the benifits of writing/storing on an external drive are, and if it's neccesary, a good external drive to use? I have a USB 2.0 drive, but I've tried doing my editing while using clips stored on the drive and it only makes rendering even slower, about 30 minutes render time per minute of video. I would really appreciate any help someone could offer.
I posted this also on the Apple Support Communities and got no responses so I'm giving it a try here!
