I have been using the first aluminum MacBook unibody for 2.5-3 years now. I got it to replace a G5 iMac that my wife now uses and is getting long in the tooth.
I started doing some HD video editing in final cut express where the videos are typically 5-15 minutes long and my MacBook is driving me nuts. It's a great machine but adding a background to my chroma keyed 10min video takes an hour to render before I can keep editing.
The tax return fairy can bring me a new video editing machine. I was thinking of going for an iMac - probably a 3.6 i5 (trying to stay around $15-1700). I am very worried about missing the portability and am now thing of going for a 15" MacBook pro but I give up over 1ghz of speed...
Also is the i5 3.6 is definitely the way to go over the 3.2 i3 since I'll be editing right?
I was planning on waiting for sandy bridge also, but my wife is pressuring me to give her my MacBook as the G5 is almost gone. With the delays it will probably still be a few months out.
Anyway, any thoughts at all would be great!
