I'm going to get a MBP 15" soon and wanted to start editing vids.

Do you guys know if there is a way to get Final Cut Pro X free?

Not legally. Try out iMovie first and if it doesn't do everything that you need buy FCP X. Its only $299. Other professional video editing software starts at 1000 and up.

Adobe launched their line of Professional Video Editing software to compete against FCP X. So check into them as well because they have a trial just like FCP X does. iMovie and FCP X are a lot alike, it's not as professional as it used to be. However I still love using FCP X so I'm sticking with them trusting that the next few updates will bring it back up to par, plus $299 is pretty sweet.
