Video editing

hello,

If I wanted to cut specific scenes from movies and splice them together,
What would the best program to use for Mac?

Also,

How would I put this together:
I want to be able to combine to versions of the same movie to see the difference.
So have movie #1 on top and movie #2
Below and have them both play at the same time?
