I've seen a few YouTube videos focussed on heavy-duty video editing with FCPX, Resolve & Premiere Pro, which push the M1 Pro MBPs to their limit and show some benefits to the M1 Max. (e.g. Alex Jordan at Learn Color Grading).
I imagine that these examples are designed to purposely see how far the systems can be pushed with tasks like noise reduction, motion graphics, and multiple streams of 8K video, so I'm taking them with a grain of salt.
For those of you doing more normal tasks like grading 4K or 6K video with a few effects and titles, how have you found the M1 Pro performance? Have you hit any limits that made you wish you'd chosen the M1 Max instead?
I'm still working with 4K H.264, H.265 and BRAW footage with fairly simple timelines, which I think will be handled on the M1 Pro, even if it takes a bit longer, but I'd love to hear some feedback from real users before making my decision! It's quite possible that I would move to a 6K camera within the next 3-4 years though, so any machine I choose now would need to be able to handle this too.
Thanks!
