ividcam and ivideocamera make video recording now possible on the iPhone 3G. And they are available from the Apple Store so no need to jailbreak you phone. I tried ividcam free first and it was great so I paid the 59p (UK) to remove the small notice at the bottom. Highly recommended.

Total joke, Apple required them to limit the resolution so the video quality sucks. The Cycorder app on a jailbroken iPhone is still far superior, and of course even better is the video on the 3GS.

i agree with the above posters, i have seen video recording apps that claim they are taking video at 3 frames per second.

that is an aboslute garbage FPS rate. for the 3G owners Cycorder is still the way to go.

Does anyone know if with cycorder, can you store the video clips on your actual phone?

If you download PPVideoEnabler from Cydia and then Pixelpipe from the App Store, you can upload the videos from Cycorder to a website, like your blog or facebook or twitvid.

also you can install qtweeter on a jailbroken phone and it can upload cycorder vids to twitter and facebook via twitvid. and on twitvid you can direct it to auto post the vid to youtube.

Like the title of this thread says, I'm looking for a NON-jailbroken video recording app for a 3G phone (my boyfriend's). I know they might all suck compared to what's on Cydia, but please no suggestions for that, as it just ain't happening.

Has anyone downloaded all the various video recording apps and have a preference for any of them? They all seem to have basically the same reviews...it's really hard to tell. This is what I've found so far:

iVideoCamera - Seems the most popular, but also least powerful? The major plus is that it says it definitely saves to camera roll.
ShowTime - Video Recorder - Claims twice the frame rate and no time limit. Though seems "iffy" somehow. Too good to be true? Also, it doesn't seem to save to the camera roll. We need an app that can save a video and then have it sent whenever.
iVidCam - Another one that says it's better than the rest. And it also doesn't seem to save to the camera roll...though hard to tell. It says it can e-mail a link to the video - but does that mean it gets uploaded somewhere? We don't want that!

There are one or two others I found, but they had worse reviews, worse UI, and seemed even iffier...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Broadcasters:

Knocking™ Live Video
http://itunes.apple.com/at/app/id335489392?mt=8

Transmits video from iPhone (3G, 3GS) to any iDevice. No audio. Quality depending on wireless network. You can make calls during recording. Will be updated.

And here you can choose if you want to store on their servers in realtime (the whole world can watch your work with a 20s delay), or on your iPhone (again 3G, 3GS) first, in broadcast terms: "live on server (tape) recording":

Ustream Live Broadcaster
http://itunes.apple.com/at/app/ustream-live-broadcaster/id319362690?mt=8

With sound. Community connection possible. Quality: WiFi not overwhelming but okay, 3G <15 fps, EDGE, GPRS 1-3 fps but nevertheless something works. Have some examples on their website.

Seriously, your best bet is to take the 45 seconds using Blackra1n to Jailbreak and then install Cycorder. It's the only reason I'm still jailbroken. Well, that and Intelliscreen. Seriously. The rest of the paid apps from the App Store just can't compare to Cycorder.

I can appreciate that you might not want to upload to a website, especially an 'unknown' one. But you can email the file to yourself with iVidCam. This is not ideal to obtain the file but it is simple and quick to do. Also, you can send the file to your computer using WiFi through a Safari address that the app gives you. That works just fine and again takes just seconds.
