Video in Paint Splat

Hello,

So sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

I wondered if anyone could help.

I have been asked to find out if it is possible to create an effect just with Final Cut Express and Photoshop.

What they want is a video playing in the background with paint splats falling onto it. The paint splats I can do, however they also want videos playing IN the paint splats on top of the continuous video underneath. ( So it looks like the video has splatted onto the main video rather than paint) Can this be done just with Final Cut Express and the Photoshop animation tool, or will I need something bigger like After Effects/Motion.

I never used express much, but I did find this for you:

There's also a few lines in the FCE manual about Travel Matte Alpha (and Luma).

Side note, it's definitely easy to do in Motion. If you have the $50 for it, I'd buy it, cause Motion can do so much more of that kind of stuff.

Ah, thank you so much, I've been looking in all the effects and didn't even think that it would be somewhere else!!

Right.... guess I'll be off to make a mess with a lot of paint!!
