It as suggested that I should be able to use the Apple TV to output the video of an iPad to another display, and the iPad-Apple TV connection be wireless.

The application is classroom instructor using an iPad to free-hand draw basic line drawings (think chemistry, molecule structures), and have whatever is appearing on the iPad to appear on a projection screen via the iPad--Apple TV--projector setup.

My concern is with this being a true functionality of the original iPad.
 
I think you are correct. Someone (on another forum) said global support is only on the iPad2, but that AirPlay is supported on the original iPad, but its application specific.
