Video overlay on a slideshow in iMovie

Hey all....total newb here.

I am making a DVD for my sister for her 40th birthday. My idea is to have a slideshow with old photos running in the background, while overlaying a video "box" featuring friends and family with some commentary.

Similar to this look:

Is this possible in iMovie? I have the slideshows created in iPhoto, exported them and am ready to import in iMovie.

Ive searched around, but couldn't quite find an answer.

iMovie's "Picture in Picture" feature should be able to do this for you. Import the slideshow to iMovie, put it in a Project, then drop your video on top of it, and then choose P in P from the menu.
