Video player and video 'bookmarks'

I would like to know if there is any way of doing something like a bookmark on a video file.

I mainly use vlc player and quicktime but I can download any other player you suggest me.

I want to be able to start watching a video from the 'time point' I stopped viewing it the last time I opened it.

How can I do it?

I need something like 'resume play' function of dvd players(software or devices).
