I enjoy the simplicity of Quicktime, but I have many MKV files, which Quicktime doesn't support. Is there a codec I can install to make Quicktime compatible with MKV files? Failing that, what media player would you recommend that's most similar to Quicktime in terms of simplicity and UI?

As an alternative, I've been using VLC for the past few years, but I really don't like the OS X version. Personally, I find VLC to have somewhat sluggish response times, choppy animations, and high energy consumption.

What would be the best player for my very minimal needs? I have a late-2013 13" MBP running Yosemite. Thanks!
