Very new to OS X here.

I have about 150 still pics with 4 songs that I need in a slideshow. It has to be able to be played in a DVD player (Video TS folder etc)

Does iMovie allow me to create this and burn it as a "DVD player compatible" format? If so how? What about iDVD?

In iMovie, choose Share > iDVD; it will create and export your slideshow to iDVD. From there, you can create a DVD, or a Video TS File.

Burn slideshow to disk

I have similar issue, but am trying to burn slideshow from SWF 'n Slide software to cd/dvd to play on dvd player. The choices for file type are .swf, .snsp, .html. I have burned each of these through burn program on Mac but they will not play on dvd player.

Do I need to download and/or purchase burn software?

Thanks in advance!

Those file formats aren't DVD file formats. You need to find a program that's suitable for DVD authoring.
