I have a early 2015 Macbook Pro Retina (13"). For years I've been using it in clamshell with a NEC PA272w display connected via mini-DisplayPort. The monitor has always been at 2k (2560x1440p) resolution and 59.88hz refresh rate. I occasionally alternate between sRGB and AdobeRGB colorspaces.

My typical desktop and application experience is fine. However, whenever I try to watch most iTunes movies and most YouTube videos in full screen, the video begins to rapidly scroll vertically once the video controls bar (ie: the menu bar with Play/Pause/FF/etc.) minimizes/fades from the screen.

It doesn't appear to do this when I have the laptop's screen open (non-clamshell, in other words) while watching the video in fullscreen on the external NEC monitor.

Troubleshooting done thus far:
1.) SMC reset (multiple)

2.) NVRAM reset (multiple)

3.) Reset the monitor to its factory/default state

4.) I do not have another mDP to mDP cable to swap with, however, considering all video displays fine when not in clamshell, I have no reason to suspect it's the cable.

5.) I've tried switching between 50hz, 59hz and 60hz refresh rate (which are the only options available)

6.) The vertical scrolling isn't experienced when watching video from the HDMI port. HDMI's max resolution is 1080p. Additionally, it doesn't do this on another monitor over HDMI.

7.) It still does it when I switch the resolution to 1080p over mDP.

8.) It does this with recently purchased/released movies (such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi), as well as older movies purchased/downloaded years ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
[doublepost=1527132344][/doublepost]actually, I just noticed that, although it does start scrolling with some newer movies, it eventually stops. Examples were Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Blade Runner: 2049. It didn't do it at all with Wind River.

"Logan" however, wouldn't stop scrolling.

If I keep my mouse cursor on the menu/controls bar, there is no scrolling.
