Wouldn't say its on par with the iPhone. More noise. Although I still can't see my holding that device in public and filming.

I swear any camera on an iPad besides the FaceTime camera is just feature parity with Android tablets. You got cameras? We got cameras. A camera on an iPad is for the most part just a toy, presumably why Apple didn't jack up the quality in the part.

And, yeah, more noise. My iPhone 4 is better, but that may in large part be a function of the fact it's much easier to shoot video with an iPhone. You don't have to wiggle-waggle it all over the place when you move it around. I think the OP/sample poster says it best himself: it's awkward shooting personal-grade video with an iPad-size device.

Yeah I did notice the noise too - it could have been due to it being a mall food court. I'm sure i'll try other areas soon :)

I believe they used Kellogg's Whole Grain cameras in the iPad 2.

I haven't tried shooting any video with mine yet, but ya, that's pretty darn good. Not quite as good as my iPhone 4 but surprisingly good. Just for the record, videos shot in low light with my phone look crappy as well.

1) I'm ashamed I recognzied that mall before you said which one it was. I live over 800 miles away and I still knew. Learning that you're a food-court guru is not a happy day.

2) I've been comparing the iPhone 4 to the iPad and while the iPhone does perform better, the iPad has a wider view which is kind of cool. Here's a test where I'm holding each device in the SAME spot:

iPhone video recording screen:

iPad video recording screen:

So that's kind of cool. The lower your lighting the worse the iPad will look compared to the iPhone. But if you have good light (like they seem to in that mall) then the iPad actually makes a nice recorder and it's nice to get a slightly wider view than the phone provides.

The sound was quite impressive how the levels stayed the same even while spinning the ipad around

Oh, wow! That is cool to see that it has a bigger sensor!

Knowing something about cameras, I wonder if part of the issue with the iPad camera is software based. It sure looks like over aggressive JPEG compression to me.

Sorry for thread revival, shoot me if you want, but what's it like steadycam wise?

I mean from what I can see it's a bit shakey, defo not the best thing you want when vlogging. I personally don't see what purpose either camera on it could possibily have apart from maybe skype...? I don't know, just doesn't look practical.
