Video software

I am trying to covert some video files to DVD format, tried iDVD but it keeps crashing out so I am guessing the video files are either too big or not compatible?

Can anyone suggest any good alternative software for converting/creating DVD movies?

This is $15 shareware. It doesn't do chapters though.
