I'm sure this has already been thought about, but I have been annoyed with my Thunderbolt equipped iMac (2011), since I realised I couldn't use the wonderful monitor for other sources.
I have lately been using AirServer to stream podcasts from my iPad and it seems to work pretty well. Since I haven't had much more experience with Airplay than that, (my ageing Bravia seems to have had a dead HDMI connection, so no AppleTV for me
)........
.......Is it possible, (is there an adapter/device), to use an external video source with airplay? (The AppleTV seems to only be HDMI out I noticed). I thought maybe someone here could stop me before I get to excited about the idea. Xbox360 -> airplay adapter -> AirServer -> iMac would be a solution to the "only thunderbolt devices" rule, if there is a way and if its fast enough and if the no resolution problems and ............
Just a thought, I'll keep looking.
