Video Time Stamp...

I'm transferring some old VHS-C video tapes to DVD. I'm flying them into my MacBookPro by putting the tapes into a video cassette adapter, (which allows my standard VCR deck play the tapes), and then sending them through a Canopus digital converter, and into my MBP via Firewire, for recording in iMovie. My problem is: the date and running time stamp are visible on the screen. Was it recorded right onto the images of the tape? Is there a way to transfer these tapes without that date/time stamp being seen?

Yes it is recorded directly to tape on that format, you can only crop to remove it.
