Viewing a PDF with Safari

Does Safari and Preview use the same OSX native framework resources to display a PDF, or are there two different frameworks for viewing a PDF in the system library. I'm running OSX 10.5 Safari 4.0.5.
 
They use the same library @

/System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/PDFKit.framework

Why are you still running such an ancient version of Safari?
