how do I view the battery life on my 3g? The only place I can see the battery life is on the top of the screen.thanks

Viewing battery life

That is the only place unless you plug it in. Then you'll get a bigger battery icon that is more detailed. It doesn't list the minutes left though, but if you go into usage in your settings you can see how long since last charge.
Just jailbreak it, install BossPrefs through Cydia and then there's an option to give you a numerical battery indicator instead of the graphic.
