When viewing secure sites isn't there supposed to be a padlock indicating that the site that your viewing is secure?
 
Yes, in Safari, it's in the very upper right corner of the window (at least on Safari 3 on Leopard).

Thats what i thought,but that lock icon is not appearing anywhere,just to let you know the sites I'm visiting are Amazon,BH photo and no lock,why?TIA.
 
It depends on the site. Amazon, for example, doesn't use a secure connection most of the time except when you're actually entering/viewing sensitive data. For example, I went there, no lock. I opened my account info, and there was the lock.
