Is there a way to do this for free? I've only found Mobile Sync Browser that works so far but I have to pay.. Only need to use it for 5 mins so I'm looking for something for free if there is something

Are you pooping and forgot your phone? This is the only time I've ever needed it. And sorry I'm not much help. If you JB your phone, (assuming it's an iPhone), there's a way to do it.

Why not just take a snapshot on your phone and then e-mail the picture to yourself?

yeah I was going to do that but I have about a years worth of messages I want to sort though.. thought it would be easier to work with a bigger screen etc

Look for a program called "PhoneView". I use it for this and many other great features that allows you to download and save things to your Mac.
