Viewsonic wide display monitor blurry when scaled

I have the Viewsonic VP3881 monitor and a 16" macbook pro. The computer wants to display natively a 1920x1080 look even though the monitor is 3860x1600. If I use the OSX scaling to get more screen real estate it significantly affects the sharpness of text and images. Am I doing something wrong? Read a lot of good reviews about this monitor with mac. Using the provided USB-C display cable.
