I purchased an iPod along with some other electronics at an estate sale recently. On the back it has 80GB . Looks like Model A1136.

My wife had what appears to be the correct charging cord. I charged it for 24 hours. The screen will light up for a few seconds and just shows : www.apple.com/support/ipod. That gets me nowhere.

The iPod barely shows the outline off the apple logo in the middle off the screen when it's black and you can hear some slight noise and that's it.

Do you think the battery is shot ? Replacement available ? Cost ? Or do I toss it ?

Any advice appreciated. I do love the old iPods !

The battery is probably dead, but you should try it with the 30-pin cable plugged into the iPod and connected to a power source, i.e. a charger or USB port on a computer. If it functions that way, you could consider replacing the battery. The hard drives in these things tend to die eventually too. Aside from iFixit, EOE is a source of parts, and there are others.

It's likely the hard drive is dead too. Can you post a photo of the screen you're seeing when it powers on?
