Hey people, was wondering if u could gimme a hand,
on my second mac now and thought i'd venture out by buying an airport extreme, it doesnt have a modem but i didnt think this would be an issue as i have an ethernet cable modem from ntl (now virgin media)

this modem works fine with my Belkin N1 router however when i plug it into the airport it simple says that it doesnt not have a Valid IP address and cannot connect to the internet with the orange error light.
Virgin give a dynamic ip so theres no way for me to manually input it as it simply wouldnt work

Has any1 else had this issue, know if it is a compatibility issue between virgin (or ntl/telewest modems) with the new airport extreme or know of a workaround.

it may be useful to note that the airport does show up green with and work when i set it to bridge mode and plug an ethernet cable from the belkin router connected to the net into the wan port of the airport... however this defeats the object of buying an airport extreme.

also im not sure this makes any difference but my computer appears to be broadcasting an ad-hoc network, how would i turn this off as it is unecessary

i guess nobody knows then, guess i'll just have to keep the belkin and plug the aebs into it

i can try to help. i have the new airport extreme. (wireless-n). i'm assuming you have that one as well.

what happens when you but the airport in bridge mode with your dsl modem plugged up to it?
