My phones acting weird and i want to make it unjailbroken and reinstall the os, but i want to re jailbreak it again after and unlock it how would i go about doing this without upgrading my firmware or baseband ect...

iPhone 3g
firmware: 3.1.2
baseband: 05.11.07

and what would be the best option for jail-breaking again on this firmware as i was not the one who did it in the first place.... im not sure if i want to use spirit as i do wanna experiment with iDroid witch will not work if the phone is jailbroken with spirit..

Any help?

Restore to 3.1.2 (choose set up as new to get rid of JB issues) then re-jailbreak with Redsn0w

Very simple with a 3G

I prefer pwnage tool. It will preserve your baseband. Basically it creates a custom restore package (ipsw) that you can use anytime you need to restore the phone.

do not have a mac but that does sound appealing i do have osx86 version i could run in a emulator to make the custom ipsw, if i make the ipsw will i be able to use windows to restore it if needed?

OP has a 3G so he can install any version of the firmware he wants, 3G does not have to worry about hashes.

Since OP has 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.xx on his phone, easiest method is to go back to fresh install of 3.1.2, baseband will not be changed. Pwnage Tool is not needed in this case.

Redsn0w is a simple 3 minute jailbreak.

All iTunes does is ask you if you want to update, you are never forced. Just click the don't remind me again button.

You must have the correct IPSW for 3.1.2 and 3G downloaded.

On PC, hit shift plus restore
On Mac, hit option plus restore.
Then browse to correct IPSW, don't choose 3.1.3 if you want to stay with 3.1.2 and 5.11.xx baseband.

If you do not know what you are doing, go to iClarified and get a tutorial.
