Does anyone have a screenshot of "pPod"? I'd be curious to see how blatant the rip off was.

A buddy of mine here at work (he's a Mac user but has to provide support for all the Dell's here) has an iPaq and came by to show me this just after I showed him my iPod. It was the version previous to the one above with the buttons above the scroll wheel. It acted just like my real iPod, even the screen scrolling right or left depending on if you use the middle button or menu button.
In other words, very blatant. As neat as it is, I'm surprised Apple didn't catch this eariler, and that these guys who made it were actually stupid enough to do this (freeware maybe, but selling it? Bad idea.). Just like the kid who named his company mikerowesoft.com. Again, not thinking.

What I dont understand is peoples lack of understanding with marketing and advertising. The iPod is cool and is now a social icon, to show your friends your pPod means nothing. Apple has done a wonderful job making the iPod secuessful through good advertising and a quality product. Also why does that pic say HP on it, maybe I am confused but are they not working with apple now?

Yes, that is the picture of the changed version, after the developer was contacted by Apple. The name was changed at that point too. It ran on any PocketPC (a.k.a. WinCE) machine, including the iPaq shown.

When I looked at the reviews, I wasn't surprised. It's not hard to duplicate visuals but there is much more to the iPod than that. pPod/pBop didn't work that much like an iPod at all and people who paid the $20 were extremely dissatisfied. I know when I pay $20 for a duplicate of something that costs $299, I expect exact duplication. :D

Out of curiosity, Does the UI on that pPod program look like the iPod's?

You might want to look at the picture previously posted or find the other thread which had the original. In any case, the original looked exactly like a third generation iPod.

uh, duh
