I posted a news story (at the end of last year, I think) about a guy who bought a virtual island in the same game – it set him back about $26,000 if memory serves. I've not played the game myself, mind – for one thing, I don't think I'm rich enough... :D

Why do I get the urge to crash a space shuttle into the space station?

I wonder what the legality of virtual ownership is? It's hardly leasehold is it. If the game stops running, I assume he'd loose everything.

They mentioned that in this article - seems this guy also tried to buy the island but was out bid.....

Weirdness - and the most bizarre thing is that he thinks he can make $20k a month from taxes on the visitors to his space station.

Nuts.

I guess we now know what happened to the guys who lost all that Beanie Baby money.

Of course this is sane compared to that ...

I think you've missed the most disturbing point of the article..."IGE, a leading broker of game property, said it has handled deals worth more than $100,000, but would not provide details because of client confidentiality."

This is only the public record...

That is a bit strange and scary - I'm thinking IGE and the game selling the property are very happy with all this.....

Perhaps, perhaps not. There is the very real possibility of a virtual real estate bubble(ouch... the brain baby is kicking on that phrase).

I would hate to be blamed if this goes south. The game company is running a virtual economy and they have to be very careful about supply and demand. Maybe they should hire katie to be an economist in chief to control the supply and demand.

ah, but its virtual - and they can add as much as they want. So in this case they have a space station where you can hunt dinosaurs. What happens if someone else opens up a new one?

I have enough things to do worrying/playing/enjoying/working in the real world. The last thing I need is more stuff to do in a virtual world.

Bleh,

Well, seeing as how this game is PC only, I doubt too many people here have played it. I think this is just rediculous though... he's going to make $ in real life from a virtual space station? What's wrong with this picture...

Think of all the money made from virtual worlds in books and movies...

People have made lots of money selling castles on clouds.
