Virtualbox version 7 which was just released and on macOS hosts it has dropped all kernel extensions. VirtualBox relies fully on the hypervisor and vmnet frameworks provided by Apple which requires instructions not supported on the Westmere processor.

VMWare Fusion made this move for BigSur and beyond so I have been using Virtualbox in Monterey. Version 6.1 is still being maintained and runs (slower than Fusion on Catalina).

Yes, VB and Fusion suck. Neither work. Parallels is our only option, and their licensing is criminal.
I paid for it, went to load it one day, to use my scanner, and they had shut it off.
Not a matter of not getting a new update after a period of time, but the same version I had been using, killed by them to extort more money, whether I wanted an update or not. No chance of using my scanner, no warning, just DEAD.
They are quite crooked and greedy.
It's getting to the point that you can't even buy software anymore.
Being the only VM that supports our Macs, I would pay to upgrade, and support their company, but not after they shut it off the way they did.
