Virus Question

From my understanding you can only get a virus if you install something that requires you to enter the admin password.

Let's say that I installed something, and I am not sure if it is doing some damage, how can i see if it is doing any damage?

is there anyway to check?

if nothing is broken so far you are fine.
check in the activity monitor to see if there is anything strange running (utilities).
